The coronavirus situation in Italy only seems to get worse as the number of deaths has risen to 969 in the past day.
This is the biggest daily jump since the crisis began bringing the total number of deaths to 9,134.
Italy’s Civil Protection Agency confirmed that there has been an increase of 4,401 cases in the past day that brings the total confirmed cases to 86,498; officially surpassing China.
51 doctor who tested positive for the virus since the outbreak have died. As of 28th March 2020, 6,414 health workers have been infected with the coronavirus.
In some good news, a 101-year-old man was released from hospital after recovering from the virus. The news was confirmed by Deputy mayor of Rimini City, Gloria Lisi.
Identified as Mr P, he was admitted to hospital last week after testing positive for COVID-19 and left the hospital on Thursday. He was born in 1919, during the Spanish flu pandemic, which is estimated to have killed between 30 million and 50 million people worldwide.
Deputy Mayor Lisi termed his recovery as “truly extraordinary” and gave “hope for the future”.
